The Story of a Stubborn Man | Oleksandr Teren

“History of a Stubborn Man” is an autobiographical novel that represents the voice of a generation facing the greatest challenge of modern Ukraine. The author — Oleksandr Budko, callsign “Teren,” commander of a platoon in the 49th Separate Rifle Battalion “Carpathian Sich” — shares a personal story of transformation: from a civilian who had never held a weapon before February 24, 2022, to a true defender, soldier, and veteran of the heroic Kharkiv counteroffensive, during which he lost both legs.

The book documents the journey of anyone who felt an irresistible need to take up arms when the country stood on the edge of survival, becoming an epitome of persistence, resilience, and unconditional love for the Motherland. Through the lens of personal trials, the author describes the pain of loss, fear, and uncertainty on the front, as well as incredible courage, brotherhood, support, and faith in Victory. In simple, candid language, he unveils the daily life of soldiers, their struggles, emotions, and humanity even under enemy fire.

This work is much more than a war diary. It is a manifesto of will, the story of a man who refused to give up the choice to remain Human under any circumstances. Despite heroic losses, Oleksandr maintains the strength of spirit, emphasizing that true victory is staying worthy and honest before oneself and one’s comrades, and not losing faith in Ukraine and its future.

“History of a Stubborn Man” is a testament for contemporaries and future generations, answering the question of what drives and motivates a Ukrainian defender. The book is relevant for military personnel, volunteers, civilians, and anyone who wants to understand the true value-psychological foundation of modern Ukraine.
