The army has introduced radical changes to its physical training uniforms, and the changes have also affected its popular jackets.
The main innovation is an updated design and lighter material with new moisture-repellent features.
"It's a new icon," said Army Sgt. Maj. Raymond Chandler, the service's highest-ranking commissioned officer.
The updated APFU sports uniform is the culmination of several years of work. According to Mortlock, more than 76,000 soldiers responded to an army-wide survey in early 2012 about the uniform, complaining about its modest size and outdated fabrics. About 170,000 soldiers responded to a second survey, evaluating the army's proposed color and design options.
The new jacket is designed to be comfortable to wear not only during training, but also outside of it.

● The jacket is made of new innovative fabrics, has labels without tags and a gold logo on black fabric;
● Refusal to use reflective materials. This decision was made due to the risk of being invisible in the combat zone. If necessary, soldiers can wear reflective belts;
