Blood chit - what is it?
Blood chit is a special identification piece of fabric (patch or insert) that has historically been used by military pilots. Its main function is to inform the local population that a person is an Allied pilot who has crashed or been shot down and needs help and protection. The blood chit usually contains several languages with an appeal for help and a promise of a reward for those who help them return home, as well as a flag or other recognizable symbols. This practice dates back to World War II, and in modern replica jackets, blood chit is integrated as an authentic historical element.
